Cleaning debris from channel drains is an essential part of drain maintenance and when made part of a regular maintenance plan, it makes it easier to ensure that your day won’t be disrupted by dealing with blocked drainage.
What are channel drains?
To help with the flow of water on hard surfaces channel, linear or ACO drainage systems can be installed. These long, narrow channels are set into the ground and covered by a grate to allow water to drain into them. This prevents water from lying on the surface or going straight into the main drainage system, helping to prevent flooding. Car parks, driveways, patios, swimming pools and commercial buildings are places where you are likely to see channel drains.
Maintaining channel drains
As they are set into the ground and covered only by a grate, channel drains can easily become filled with soil, leaves and debris, blocking the flow of water. The grates on the drains can also become damaged, allowing larger debris to enter the channel and to cause a trip hazard. Channel drains have an important role to play in preventing water from pooling and causing damage to property and surrounding surfaces, so keeping them clear should be a part of your grounds maintenance plan.
